Stormwater Steward Award
The 2007 Stormwater Steward award has been presented to
Farmco Athens, Inc. for it's stormwater management design
of the Jose Iza building project at 314 Commerce Boulevard.
Their sand filter design went above and beyond the requirements
for stormwater management.
This project is an excellent example of how an industrial
property, even one of a relatively small size, can be designed
to be of great benefit to the environment. This design has a
positive impact on our community by improving water quality and
reducing stormwater pollution.
The Stormwater Steward Award recognizes environmental stewardship in the area of stormwater management. The award recognizes an organization, business, individual, or community group that has worked to consider the impact of stormwater runoff on the health of area waters through a specific project, practice, or event.
Organizations interested in nominating a business, individual or community group for the award should include at least one of the following criteria:
The use of innovative stormwater management practices in the design or construction of a development project within Athens-Clarke County.
The use of innovative stormwater management practices to retrofit an existing development within Athens-Clarke County to better manage and/or treat its stormwater.
Exceptional project management resulting in reduced construction related nonpoint source pollution.
Significant efforts to provide stormwater education to employees and/or customers/clients.
Volunteerism and company-wide participation in watershed programs such as Adopt-a-Stream.
